Under 12's archive news season 2003-2004
Away game against St.PHILLIPS YOUTH 07/09/2003 Patchway faced a tough away trip to St Phillips Youth in their opening league fixture of the season. They ran out 5-3 winners in a bruising encounter.
The first half saw Patchway take an early lead through Tallen Smith with a goal scored direct from a corner. They went further ahead through skipper Jonathan Noyes who netted from 20 yards. Jack Wells finished off a good move to make it 3-0. St Phillips then missed a penalty, but shortly afterwards pulled a goal back to make it 3-1. Just before the break Ashley Scantlebury scored to give Patchway a 4-1 half time advantage. Early in the second half good approach play saw Nico Clifford give Patchway a 5-1 lead. St Phillips then had a good 10 minute spell when they scored two quick goals, causing panic in the Patchway ranks. Following some solid defending Patchway closed the game out for a thoroughly commendable 5-3 victory. Patchway Athletic Youth U12�s v Stoke Lane �C� U12�s 14/09/03 Patchway entertained Stoke Lane �C� in their first home league fixture of the season. The match was played on a very hard, bouncy pitch in warm sunny weather. Patchway gained a comfortable 6-0 victory in difficult playing conditions. In a frustrating first half Patchway created countless chances only to be denied by the woodwork and an in form goalkeeper. The breakthrough finally came when Jack Wells finished off a good move to make it 1-0. The visitors rarely threatened the Patchway goal largely due to the well-marshalled Patchway defence. Despite the many near misses the half time score was 1-0. The home side started the second half by continuing to play the neat passing game that has become their trademark. This finally paid off when Jack Wells scored his second goal with an unstoppable 20-yard drive. Nico Clifford quickly made it 3-0 with a neat finish from close range. Tallen Smith made it 4-0 from long range with a goal previously rehearsed in training. The final 10 minutes belonged to Ben Speariett, he finished off an excellent team move to make it 5-0 and added his second by latching onto a long clearance by goalkeeper Daniel Hudd to make the final score 6-0. Man of the match - Jack Wells. Two well-taken goals complimented by unselfish team play. Ingleside Youth U12�s v Patchway Athletic Youth U12�s (Played at the Tennis Court Road playing fields on 21/09/03) Patchway travelled to Ingleside Youth for their second away fixture of the season. The visitors were forced to reshuffle their line up following injuries and holiday commitments to three regular players. Chris Buck and Jordan Johnson made their league debuts. Patchway completed an outstanding 14-0 victory. Patchway began this game with real purpose by scoring with their first attack of the game through Ashley Scantlebury. The remainder of the first half saw the visitors take complete control with Ben Speariett completing a first half hat-trick and Tallen Smith going one better by scoring four. Ashley Scantlebury added his second goal to make the half time score 9-0. The second half saw Patchway play with the freedom and confidence that their half time lead allowed. Further goals were added by Tallen Smith taking his tally to five, Chris Buck scored twice, Ryan Lansdown scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot and Ben Speariett added his fourth. Ashley Scantlebury had a penalty well saved which denied him his hat trick. In summary, Ingleside were completely outclassed in this 14-0 rout. Patchway played with passion, flair and commitment and were ruthless in front of goal. Man of the match � Craig Preddy. No nonsense committed display for his team.
Cadbury Heath Youth B U12�s versus Patchway Athletic Youth U12�s (Played at the Tennis Court Road playing fields on 19/10/03) Patchway returned to action following a three week lay off when the travelled to high flying Cadbury Heath Youth B. Patchway contested a 4-4 draw to remain unbeaten this season. Patchway started the first half poorly and looked rusty following their recent inactivity. Cadbury Heath looked dangerous and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring to take a deserved 1-0 lead. Worse was to come as the home side increased their advantage to 2-0 which their play merited. Patchway then introduced Daniel Mathews to play in a 4-4-2 formation. In the visitors first decent passing move Tallen Smith pulled a goal back when he netted from 20 yards. Skipper Jon Noyes was then forced off with illness allowing Ashley Scantlebury to return to the fray. The visitors levelled the scoring when midfielder Aiden Saunders scored from close range making the half time score 2-2. Patchway started the second half as they did the first and were quickly behind again following an excellent free kick giving Heath a 3-2 advantage. This became 4-2 following poor Patchway defending. Patchway re-introduced Jon Noyes and Chris Buck quickly pulled a goal back with an excellent solo effort giving the visitors hope at 4-3. With 10 minutes remaining Ben Speariett finished off an excellent move to haul the visitor�s level at 4-4. Patchway then pushed hard for the winner striking the woodwork, but eventually ran out of time. In summary, Patchway were not at their best in this game. However the players should take great credit as they twice came from behind to earn a valuable point. Man of the match - Chris Buck - Midfield general. Patchway Athletic Youth versus Hanham Boys U12�s (Played at Patchway High School on 02/11/03) Patchway played host to Hanham Boys in the fourth round of the League Cup. The ground was soft following a night of rain. Patchway continues to suffer from several players not fully match fit due to illness, final score Patchway won 6-0 Skipper Tallen Smith lost the toss forcing Patchway to play up the hill, in the early exchanges Patchway struggled to play the passing and flowing football that we have become accustomed to, Hanham�s Goalkeeper made some very good saves frustrating the home side. The breakthrough came with Aiden Saunders scoring from a cross delivered by Tallen Smith who also scored the second goal Ben Speariett scored the third and forth goal to make it 4-0 by half time. The second half continued like the first half with the Hanham goalkeeper frustrating the Patchway forwards, Patchway�s defence displayed a solid performance with the opposition having few attempts at Patchway�s goal. Patchway�s new goal keeper made a solid debut making some very good saves when called upon. The fifth goal came from Ashley Scantlebury shooting from the 18yrd box; the sixth goal came from an individual effort from Ben Speariett completing his hat-trick. In summary Patchway won the game, however the performance was not of their usual standard, probably due to illness and key players missing. Yate Rangers U12�s versus Patchway Athletic Youth U12�s (Played at Kelston Close on 09/11/03) Patchway were the visitors when they faced Yate Rangers on a bumpy uneven pitch which was not conducive to the passing game that has became their trademark. Despite the poor playing surface the visitors ran out 5-1 winners to maintain their unbeaten run. Patchway started the first half with real purpose forcing their opponents to defend during the early exchanges. Striker Tallen Smith scored the first of his two first half goals putting the visitors ahead scoring from close range following neat build up play. He netted his second midway through the first half scoring with a well taken free kick. The half time score was 2-0. The second half saw Patchway continue to press forward creating many chances. They were rewarded for all of their pressure when Tallen Smith completed his hat-trick to make the score 3-0. After the re-start the hosts played their best football of the match without creating any clear cut chances. However Rangers pulled a goal back following some sloppy defending, which was harsh on the Patchway defence who had defended admirably. This was a temporary setback for Patchway as Tallen Smith completed a memorable afternoon by scoring his fourth to make it 4-1. The visitors were now playing some attractive football and went on to score a fifth goal through marksmen Ben Speariett. In summary Patchway controlled this match from start to finish on a difficult pitch. They put in a measured performance with the entire team looking comfortable in possession. Man of the match � Ben Speariett � Unselfish forward display for his club. Patchway Athletic Youth U12�s versus Ashton Boys U12�s (Played at Scott Park on 16/11/03) Patchway put their unbeaten league record on the line when they played hosts to Ashton Boys in a game selected by the Evening Post as the Avon Youth League Match of the Day. The home side ran out 5-3 winners. Patchway started the first half well with skipper Jonathan Noyes going close with several long range shots. The deadlock was broken after 10 minutes when Ben Speariett steered in a Tallen Smith cross to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later Tallen Smith latched onto a clearance by goalkeeper Connan Wyatt-Goodwin scoring neatly to give Patchway a deserved 2-0 lead. Just before half time the home side brought on Ashley Scantlebury following an injury to Tallen Smith. Half time score 2-0. Ashton boys started the second half with purpose and pulled a goal back after 3 minutes following a mix up in the Patchway defence to make the score 2-1. Patchway responded well playing the ball wide at every opportunity. The lively Jack Wells scored after 9 minutes of the second half following a goalmouth scramble in the Ashton Boys penalty area to make it 3-1. From the re-start Ben Speariett went on a twisting run before being hauled down for a penalty. He got up to convert the spot kick to give his team a 4-1 advantage. On 15 minutes Jack Wells scored his second goal with a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box, following good work by Ashley Scantlebury to make the score 5-1. Ashton Boys replied quickly when they were awarded penalty which was neatly converted to make the score 5-2. Ashton Boys were on top at this stage and added their third goal on 22 minutes with a well taken breakaway goal to reduce the score to 5-3. In the final ten minutes Patchway created several good chances that were well saved by the Ashton Boys goalkeeper. Ashton Boys themselves forced several corners but could not add to their 3 goals. In summary this was an even contest between two well matched teams. Patchway were the winners but Ashton Boys played their part in an entertaining match. Man of the match � Daniel Mathews. � Rock solid defending. Patchway Athletic under 12 v Lockleaze CC under 12 Patchway travelled away to Lockleaze for this game Patchway started slowly. The first chance of the game went to Patchway but Tallen shot wide of the goal mouth. Lockleaze where a very strong side in the tackle. Patchway opened up the scoring with a goal from Chris Buck at this time in the game Patchway where trying to play there passing game but could not get going. Patchway had the next attempt on goal with Ben crossing the ball in, but once again Tallen missed the target by this stage of the game Lockleaze started to get into the game. Patchway had another attempt on goal but this time Ben missed the target at this stage Conan in the Patchway goal pulled off a good save from a free kick. Just before half time Lockleaze scored making the half time score 1-1. At the start of the second half the midfield of Patchway had to make some very strong tackles and they also received a lot of strong tackles with John and Adian in the for front, Lewis Chambers playing his first game for Patchway at the back and had a very good game. Midway though the half Lockleaze got there second goal. Patchway where still creating chances with Ben, Tallen and Jack going close. Patchway where forced to make a change with Ryan going off injured, bringing on Ashley. With 5 minutes to go Patchway had a free kick on the edge of the Lockleaze box, Ben touched the ball to Tallen with the Lockleaze goalkeeper not being able to hold his shot and the ball ended up in the back of the net making the final score 2-2. In all it was not one of the teams best games but against a physical side Patchway held there own a good physical performance. Patchway Athletic Youth U12�s versus Yate Rangers U12�s (Played at Scott Park on 14/12/2003) Patchway played hosts to Yate Rangers in the Avon Youth League on a soft pitch in sunny conditions. The home side ran out 3-0 winners. Patchway made a solid start to the first half but were unable to break down a stubborn Yate defence. The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes when Ben Speariett went on a twisting run before being hauled down for a penalty; Tallen Smith converted the spot kick to give his team a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later Speariett delivered a telling cross that was parried by the impressive Yate goalkeeper only for Smith to score from close range to give Patchway a deserved 2-0 Half time lead. Patchway re-shuffled at half time introducing Ashley Scantlebury and Daniel Hudd for Nico Clifford and Speariett. Patchway prompted from midfield by skipper Jonathan Noyes controlled the second half by keeping possession of the ball whilst creating numerous goal scoring chances. Yate themselves defended well without offering any threat to the Patchway goal this was largely due to the strong presence of Ryan Lansdown who was magnificent in the heart of the home defence. Predictably Smith completed his hat-trick with a sublime finish from the edge of the 18 yard box giving his side a 3-0 advantage. Patchway used the rolling substitution with Jack Wells making way for Speariett late on but the hosts could not add to their 3 goals. In summary this was a measured performance by Patchway showing patience in attack, concentration in defence and purpose in midfield. Man of the match � Jonathan Noyes � Controlled midfield display. Patchway Athletic Youth U12�s versus St Phillips U12�s (Played at Scott Park on 21/12/2003) With the Avon Youth League reaching the season�s half way stage Patchway entertained St Phillips in the reverse of the opening day�s fixtures. To add extra spice to the match this was first versus second with St Phillips keen to avenge their earlier defeat. In a bruising encounter the home side ran out 4-1 winners. St Phillips made the better start to the first half and took a deserved 1-0 lead when a failed clearance was punished by the St Phillips attacker. Shortly before half time, Tallen Smith scored the equaliser with an unstoppable 20 yard shot. Patchway finished the first half in the ascendancy but could not break down the visitors defence. Half time score 1-1. Patchway started the second half with a determination not seen from them so far this season and were rewarded when Chris Buck drilled in a shot from close range to make the score 2-1. The versatile Lewis Chambers scored his first goal for the club with a neat finish to give the home side a 3-1 lead. St Phillips then laid siege to the Patchway goal but the home side held firm with the goalkeeper and back four magnificent. Marksmen Smith added his second goal following a long clearance which he drove into the bottom corner to give his side a 4-1 advantage. In summary Patchway were up against bigger and stronger opponents than themselves but were not intimidated and won the game by playing the better football. St Phillips played very well and contributed to an entertaining match. Man of the match � The entire squad � Courageous performance.
